Writers’ Centre Norwich supports emerging writers and stages literary events across the region.

Last year, as Norwich celebrated the submission of its bid to become a UNESCO City of Literature, the novelist Ian McEwan declared that “Norwich has turned itself into a world hub for literature”.

One of the chief catalysts for this transformation has been Writers’ Centre Norwich, an organisation that supports emerging writers and stages literary events across the region.

As well as McEwan, the organisation has brought eminent writers such as Martin Amis and JM Coetzee to Norwich, but it is just as interested in bringing lesser-known authors to prominence through events such as its Worlds Literature Festival. Chief executive Chris Gribble said: “Writers’ Centre Norwich is delighted to support the fourth year of the East Anglian Book Awards.

Each year the awards grow, gain in influence and attract more and better entries, demonstrating beyond doubt that good writing and a love of reading are at the heart of East Anglia’s culture.

“Writers’ Centre Norwich works all year round to support a vibrant community of writers and readers, and the East Anglian Book Awards is one key way of coming together with partners to show the vigour and enthusiasm of that community.”

During the summer WCN will run its regular Worlds festival, which brings writers from around the globe to Norfolk, and its series of Summer Reads events.

Budding novelists and poets in Norfolk are also well served by the workshops and courses that are regularly held at the literature development agency’s premises in Princes Street, Norwich.
