• Swallows and Amazons - Maddermarket Theatre, Norwich, August 18-September 2

The Norwich Players present Arthur Ransome’s classic tale Swallows and Amazons. When John, Susan, Titty and Roger set sail on their beloved boat Swallow they encounter fearsome foes, secret islands and dastardly pirates.

Join Dorothy on a magical adventure to the Land of Oz in this pantomime version of L. Frank Baum’s classic story.

• Summer Family Fun Day - Norwich Cathedral, August 23

The second of the cathedral’s summer fun days will see families exploring earth, water, air and fire with crafts, storytelling, puppet shows, games, dance, drama and more.

• The Nimmo Twins: The Country Cords - Norwich Playhouse, August 23-28

The Nimmo Twins return with their sell-out, award-winning show The Country Members to be recorded for a live CD.

She Goo, Billy Boy, Anne, The Council and Kraftwerk return to be recorded for posterity on a shiny disc thing that captures voices and souls and is the Devil’s work. There will also be a preview of one or three new bits for their next show.

• Grand Norwich Duck Race - From St George’s Bridge to Fye Bridge, Norwich, August 27

The 6th annual Grand Norwich Duck Race will see a colourful array of decorated ducks take to the River Wensum to raise funds for children’s charity Break.

The individual duck which will take place at 2pm with 3,000 little ducks and the corporate duck race of larger, decorated ducks will start at 2.30pm.

Free to watch but people can sponsor a small duck for £2 - www.break-charity.org

• Alice in Wonderland - Blackwater Farm, Norwich, August 26 and 27

An open air theatre production of the classic Lewis Carroll story presented by Strange Fascination.

• Village at War - Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse, August 27 and 28

UB40 - featuring original members Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue with an eight-piece band - will perform an open air concert featuring the group’s reggae and pop greatest hits against the beautiful backdrop of Holkham Hall.

A major exhibition focusing on Norfolk’s most famous son, Admiral Lord Nelson, incorporating significant objects connected to the man himself, and examining the way in which his achievements have continued to exert a powerful fascination in the 200 years since his death.

• EARTH SKY: Richard Long at Houghton - runs until October 26, open Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday from 11am

Turner Prize-winning artist Richard Long has created art all across the globe, and his latest major exhibition EARTH SKY features works inspired by Houghton Hall and its surrounds.

• Summer Spectacular Circus and Water Show - The Hippodrome Circus, Great Yarmouth, runs until September 17

The Hippodrome’s 2017 summer show features circus acts from around the world, comedy from Jack Jay and Johnny Mac, and a water spectacular grand finale which sees the circus ring turned into a giant pool.
