Gag master Russell Kane is bringing stand-up comedy to St George’s Theatre at Great Yarmouth in October.

The comic, actor and writer from Essex is a familiar face from appearances on the BBC’s Live at the Apollo, ITV’s Celebrity Juice, BBC3’s Stupid Man and as a member of the presenting team for three years of ITV2’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Now.

At St George’s Theatre he will showcase his award winning humour, which has also gone down well regularly at the Edinburgh Fringe.

He has made history as the first comedian to win the Edinburgh Award and Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Barry Award in one year.

Russell will be joined by a group of comedy club friends for the show on Thursday, October 12 at 8pm, with tickets costing £21.

St George’s Theatre director Debbie Thompson said: “It is a real coup for St George’s to host a comedian of Russell’s calibre and we are delighted he has included us on his circuit.”

The venue off King Street is seeking to establish itself as a stage for all kinds of performing arts including comedy and recently hosted another television comic face Hal Cruttenden who headlined an evening of stand up.

Another bout of stand-up comedy is scheduled at the theatre for Friday, November 17.

It will feature the Hate n’ Live panel show, where comics are challenged to make off the cuff remarks about how they hate subjects drawn from a hat.

The show has been selling out nationwide after success at the Edinburgh Festival.

There is also a Christmas stand-up session in the festive build-up to on Friday, December 8, with acts to be announced later.

Comedy will also figure in two touring amateur dramatic productions - Sheringham Little Theatre youth group’s version of the comic musical Little Shop of Horrors on Saturday, September 30 and the Sheringham Players’ festive-themed Vicar of Dibley on Saturday, November 25.

And comedy for all ages will end the year with the fifth annual pantomime, Dick Whittington and His Cat, running from December 16 to January 7.

Details of shows are at www.stgeorgestheatre.com and in brochures available at the box office or tourist information centres. Call 01493 331484 for more information and tickets.
