From the Sahara to Suffolk, six-piece Tinariwen brought a psychedelic flavour to the Obelisk Arena.

Dressed in distinctive robes, the band – from Mali – created rich, layered soundscapes in their early afternoon Latitude slot.

Bass guitar grooves coupled with lilting vocals, evoking the Middle East, with the crowd nodding along.

Few words were spoken between songs, but as they danced on stage they gave the impression of a band completely at ease and enjoying themselves.

Sixth album EMMAAR was recorded in the desert – a location favoured by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.

And Tinariwen have collaborated with a string of musical greats – including Fats Kaplin and Josh Klinghoffer.

Members of the band joined writer and journalist Andy Morgan in the Literary Arena later in the weekend, discussing issues of culture and identity as a Touareg group.

Part trance, part psychedelic, theirs was a performance to lose yourself in.
