It is a case of the show will go on at Norwich Theatre Royal tonight but shows at other venues have been cancelled because of the snow.

Norwich Theatre Royal is this week hosting Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella and tonight’s performance is due to go ahead as planned.

Stephen Crocker, the theatre’s chief executive, said: “We are focused today on ensuring the performance runs as planned for those who want to see it and can get to the theatre safely.

“We do understand that some people will not be able to make it, but we want to ensure that those who can get here have the opportunity to enjoy this magical production.

“For all those who don’t make it this evening, we will be in touch with them next week.

On a more positive note, this also means there is availability for this evening’s performance. If you can get to us and would like to see the production, do get in touch for returns.

“All future performances of Cinderella are currently planned to go ahead, but we advise ticket holders to please check with the box office on 01603 630000, or visit our website www.theatreroyalnorwich.co.uk on the day of performance.”

The theatre’s sister venue, Stage Two, will be closed all day and all activities at Stage Two are cancelled.

Comedian Joe Lycett has tweeted “Really sorry Norwich!” after his performance tonight at Norwich Playhouse was postponed.

Norwich Playhouse director Caroline Richardson said: “Joe has been making his way to Norwich today and was eager to make the show happen.

“However, after further discussions, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the show.

“Keep hold of your tickets. The new date will be announced soon.

“Tomorrow’s show is currently still scheduled to go ahead as planned.”

Meanwhile city venue The Garage has also tweeted: “Unfortunately due to the snow this evenings performance of From Zimbabwe With Love has had to be postponed. Bookers will all be contacted. We shall advertise the new date as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. Enjoy the snow and keep warm!”

In another tweet the venue said: “Some of our classes have been cancelled due to weather, however some are still running. Head to our facebook page for class updates! http://www.facebook.com/garage.norwich.”

Norfolk and Norwich Festival was also due to hold a launch event tonight to reveal its full 2018 programme for the May arts extravaganza but this has also now been cancelled and the line-up will now be launched online tomorrow at www.nnfestival.org.uk

Norwich Arts Centre is also closed today.

A statement on the NAC website says: “NAC will be closed today due to the weather. You can book tickets for all of our events online.

“Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Keep warm and enjoy the snow!”

The Butcher Babies gig at The Waterfront is currently planned to go ahead tonight.

Toby Cunningham, deputy chief of staff for UEA Students Union which oversees The Waterfront, said: “At the moment the gig is on. The band is here but we are just going to keep an eye on any weather developments throughout the day.

“We will contact all the ticket holders if anything changes and put updates online.”

Cinema City has tweeted: “We are open today (might be one of the only business in Norwich that is) but it is quite cold in the building so if you’re coming to watch a film, wrap up warm. :)”
