Music maestro Alex Flood picks out the best of the live gigs on offer in Norwich this month.

• Deaf Havana – UEA LCR - April 1

Norfolk's own, Deaf Havana, are purveyors of the type of indie-rock that helped to make Kaiser Chiefs world beaters back in the early noughties, and with tunes like 'Smiles All Round' and 'Mildred', they are sure to pack in the anthems for an incendiary live performance that will see them hit American shores for the first time later this year. Latest album, Old Souls, charged its way to the top of the charts in September of last year, with a distinctively new sound, based more around a chorus-driven, classic rock style. Coming off the back of the greatest support they've had in their short career, this is definitely the ideal time to catch an act at the peak of its creative powers.

• Duke Dumont – OPEN - April 5

In a collaboration between one of the city's biggest underground club promoters and Dumont's own Blasé Boys Club record label, OPEN will bring an exciting showcase of up and coming DJ talent to its hallowed stage this April. Featuring not only the incomparable Duke Dumont as headliner, the night will feature Bristol favourites Eton Messy and young bucks Kiwi and Gotsome. In the first of a series of nights, April 5 promises to be the start of a city wide revolution in the clubbing scene that is not to be missed.

• Horace Andy – Norwich Arts Centre - April 18

Reggae stalwart and silky smooth Creole crooner, Horace Andy, is perhaps most famous for his delectable cover of Bill Withers' 'Ain't No Sunshine', but it is not widely known that he is a long-standing collaborator with trip-hop trio, Massive Attack, featuring on the hit-singles, 'Angel' and 'Five Man Army'. Whilst his 47-year career may not have been leading up to this particular venture into Norwich, he's sure to inject some West Indian jump and jive into an otherwise drab April evening.

• Micah P. Hinson – Norwich Arts Centre - April 22

Sketchbook Records stalwart Micah P. Hinson brings his own brand of gruff country-Americana to the Arts Centre this April in support of his recently released album Micah P. Hinson and the Nothing. The seven-album, leather-booted veteran is sure to provide a sumptuous set of pedal-steel guitars, melancholic balladry and the return to Norfolk of his iconic husky roar.

• 'Indeterminacy' by John Cage with Stuart Lee – Norwich Arts Centre - April 26

Not strictly-speaking a conventional musical concert, this performance of minimalist composer John Cage's work 'Indeterminacy', by celebrated comedian Stewart Lee and 'the Conspirators of Pleasure', promises to be a stimulating rendition of one of the most progressive musical works of the twentieth century. Be ready for prepared sitars, middle-eastern percussion and short stories set to music.

• Blood Red Shoes – Waterfront - April 29

Yet another guitar band from Brighton, Blood Red Shoes enter the tenth year of their career on a new record label, Jazz Life, and with their fourth full length LP, the eponymous Blood Red Shoes. Promising the 'rawest, heaviest, sexiest' sound from them so far, this gig at the Waterfront will be a good chance to see the alternative rock duo moving in a new direction, yet still experience an electrifying rock 'n' roll show.
