Sheringham Little Theatre

It’s hard for a physician to heal himself, as the old saying goes. Nowhere have I seen this wise saw better illustrated than in Cromer and Sheringham Operatic and Dramatic Society’s new production.

Their farcical comedy is a day in the life of a marriage counsellor called Steve (Martin Rodwell). Although his regular surgery in the local community centre has earned him much respect, his own romantic life leaves much to be desired. If only he could follow his own good advice.

As the lights go up, Steve is still shackled to the handcuffs of last night’s antics. He was out on the town, trying to forget his hopeless obsession for a married woman. Along the way, he picked up a stalker called Sam (Andrea Wilson) who swears that he proposed. To complicate matters, his father (Richard Delahaye) has been thrown out and turns up to stay – perhaps indefinitely.

The show takes place on a split stage where the action flits seamlessly from Steve’s dysfunctional home-life to a meeting he is running for people with relationship difficulties.

Things get quite bonkers, but everything somehow manages to end well.

The cast of twelve do director Jackie Overton proud. Great fun. The show runs until Saturday.
