Archant Norfolk

The future is looking bright for Norfolk’s Sundown Festival after crowds of around 25,000 packed into the Norfolk Showground for both days of the music festival last weekend.

That was a significant improvement on last year, the event’s first year, when the Sunday had attracted a similar number but the Saturday saw less then 20,000 people attend.

This year the event has taken on a proper festival feel though and a purposeful effort was made to have a more mainstream line-up on the Saturday, rather than mostly urban music on both days.

Sundown spokesman, Dion Clements, said: “We wanted to give that wider offering so the Saturday was very much more pop acts and more urban acts on the Sunday, to appeal to a wider audience.”

This meant the likes of Olly Murs and Pixie Lott on the first day being followed by the likes of Labrinth and Chase & Status on the second day.

The festival appears to have gone done well with the performers as well, with Radio One DJ Zane Lowe, who was the penultimate act of the weekend, saying on his radio show: “Thank you to the kind people of Norfolk from myself, Sub Focus, Delilah, Dot Rotten and everybody else for one of the best receptions of the festival season all year.

“I’m spreading the word, Sundown Festival, amazing!”

Mr Clements added that the showground could take a capacity of 30,000 people for the event, so there is room for the festival to continue to expand.

  • Hmm...That's 30,000 people who can be ripped off for food and drink as the orgainisers take your food and drink from your bags at the entrance. Rip off Sundown.

  • Why were you even trying to take food and drink in, the terms and conditions of the event said NO food or drink. Reading the terms would have saved you the embarrasment of having it confiscated.
