All the wonderful things in the world were celebrated through song and art as youngsters showcased their work.

A Wonderful World exhibition was held at Bignold Primary and Nursery School, near the city centre, yesterday.

The event formed part of the Norfolk Schools Open Studios event, which is being run at part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival.

Children aged three to 11 had submitted work for the display which saw youngsters paint, draw and sketch animals, planets, reptiles and birds.

Their parents, friends, family members and carers got the chance to see their work on display as well as tuck into refreshments and hear the school's choir sing.

Funds were also raised for the school through an artwork auction.

Teacher Rachel Anstey-Sanders said: 'We encouraged the children to make their own choices about their own work and the standard has been absolutely brilliant.

'In some cases it's hard to tell whether it's been done by the children in reception or year six because the standard is so high. How the teachers have enabled them produce work of that level is amazing.

'I'm really pleased with how all the staff have pulled together to make it work and we've had fantastic support from the Bignold Friends Group.'

As part of yesterday's event, 12 members of the School Council acted as guides and showed parents around the artwork.

It culminated with three songs from the choir and the official unveiling of a fox's den in a new location.

Gabriel Erdodi, seven, who was one of the guides, had drawn a heron using colouring pencils. He said it was 'good fun' and 'enjoyed' showing visitors around the school.

Pupils from 19 Norfolk schools are exhibiting work, including Kinsale Junior, the Hewett and, as previously reported, Heather Avenue Infant School.
