A photo exhibition showcasing the work of small businesses in a Norfolk town is set to take place at the end of this month.

The Acorns of Diss exhibition will feature photos of entrepreneurs who own and run small businesses in the town with some of the products they sell and tools of their trade in the Stables Gallery at Diss Corn Hall between October 25 and November 3.

The pictures were taken by Elizabeth Handy, the photographer wife of business guru Charles Handy at the couple’s family cottage in Bressingham, to promote the work done by small businesses and to encourage the government to ease the regulatory burden on small companies.

Mr Handy said: “I think Norfolk people are historically independent people. They are small holders used to creating their own businesses.

“There are as many small businesses in East Anglia as there are in London because it is a place where they flourish.

“We want to encourage them and and get the government to take away some of their regulations. The government is going to remove 3,000 health and safety regulations from small businesses.”

Mr Handy is an influential author and philosopher, who was co-founder of the London Business School and has written many books, as well as lecturing around the world on business.

The exhibition is also linked to Business Network International (BNI), which helps business professionals to build relationships with each other.

Mr Handy will be presenting a talk on the opening day of the exhibition at 6pm at Diss Corn Hall. Admission is free.
