A musical homage to the life of French singing star Edith Piaf will be held at Sheringham Little Theatre.

Je ne Regrette Rien will be performed by Julie Hewitt on Saturday June 21 at 7.30pm.

The one-night only concert will feature Edith’s most treasured songs, and those of her friend and fellow performer Charles Aznavour.

Sung in both French and English, songs will include La Vie en Rose, Autumn Leaves, Padam Padam, She and Edith’s torch song Je ne Regrette Rien.

At only 4ft 8ins high, Edith Piaf was known as the Little Sparrow.

Her real name was Edith Lamboukas and she ended up becoming France’s most beloved and iconic singers.

She was born on December 19 1915 and died on October 10 1963.

Her music was often auto-biographical with her singing often reflecting her life including the themes of love, loss and sorrow.

She was named Edith after the First World War Norfolk nurse Edith Cavell, who was executed for helping French soldiers escape from German captivity.

The singer had a tough early life, which included living on the streets of Paris, but her singing talent was discovered in 1935 by Louis Leplée who owned a Le Gerny nightclub off the Champs-Élysées.

She died from liver cancer aged 47 and tens of thousands of mourners packed the Paris streets at her funeral.

Her work and name can still be found in popular culture today.

Tickets for Je ne Regrette Rien cost £10 or £7 for students.

  • In fact "piaf" means "moineau" (sparrow) in colloquial French...
