The music of Motown exploded on to the pop charts back in 1964.

And a touring show heading to Cromer Pier is celebrating that half century of classic number ones.

Direct from the USA, the 100-date Magic of Motown Reach Out tour promises five-star performances that will authentically revive the style and sophistication of everyone’s favourite Motown legends. The two-hour show brimming with 36 chart-topping hits combines singalong songs, dance and glitzy costumes.

Those early 1964 hits include Dancing in the Street, My Girl, Where Did Our Love Go, My Guy and Baby Love.

Later came iconic songs such as Stop in the Name of Love, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, This Old Heart of Mine, I Heard it Through the Grapevine, All Night Long, Heatwave and I’ll Be There.

The artists included the Temptations, Four Tops, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie and The Supremes

“Sixties classics give way to present-day masterpieces from Lionel Richie and Diana Ross,” said show producer Michael Taylor.

“Sadly, many of the original Motown legends are either no longer with us or no longer touring. The Magic of Motown is the nearest you’ll get to authentically capturing their incredible musical legacy in a live show.

“Our young cast is able to reflect the exuberance and excitement of these songs as they were originally performed.”

The show aims to provide the authentic Motown sound, and look of the original artists, whose dress and choreography was closely controlled by the Detroit-based label.

Mr Taylor added: “We’ve employed the services of top costume designer Claire Davis to create a fabulous selection of colourful costumes for the cast while leading man Andre Lejaune is responsible for choreographing the cast to perform the intricate dance moves for which Motown stars were famous.”

The Magic of Motown show is at Cromer Pier Pavilion Theatre on Sunday September 21 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £24.50 via the box office on 01263 512495 or website
