Lord Mayor’s Celebration 2017: Live music events taking place across Norwich
We love a bit of live music in Norwich and this weekend there’s going to be plenty of it. Here’s a look at the various stages set up across the city for the Lord Mayor’s Celebration...
• BBC Introducing...
BBC Intoducing in Norfolk has been supporting local artists for over a decade and will be bringing the best of those acts to Chapelfield Garden’s Bandstand between 3pm and 10pm on Saturday, July 8 for a showcase. Acts performing will include rock bands, indi performers and solo artists, all who have been discovered by the BBC Introducing team. Previous success stories include Mullally, Maya Law and Allergy Kid.
• Maui Waui’s Lion Den Stage
Taking place in Chapelfield Gardens between 11am and 10pm, the Lion’s Den Stage is set to host a range of performers from across the country covering genres such as folk, reggae and electro swing. Superstar DJ will be taking over in the evening playing the finest tunes.
• The Birdstage
Organised by The Birdcage, this stage on St Gregory’s Green will be running between 11am and 8pm and will host a feast of entertainment, including cabaret, poetry and live music.
• Norwich Arts Centre Stage
Held outside the Forum between midday and 10pm the Norwich Arts Centre stage will feature music from some of the most fantastic bands that have come through the young person’s Sonic Youths talent development scheme as well as performances from Thetford’s Franko Fraize. The Hackney Colliery Band will round the day off - these guys have had a phenomenal few years playing at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics and undertaking live sessions on BBC Two, Jazz FM and worldwide airplay.
• Gentleman’s Walk
Various performers will be taking to the city’s streets throughout the day. On Gentleman’s walk you’ll be able to experience harpist Rebecca Barnes performing everything from Bach to Ed Sheeran at midday and again at 2pm. Golden Star Morris will also pe performing at 1.30pm.
• London Street
There will be several dance performances on London Street from 1pm, with Just Dance and Ormiston Victory Academy strutting their stuff. Spangle, an act who like to perform a variety of music from Caribbean music to the theme song from Game of Thrones will also be showcasing their talent between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
• St Peter’s Street
Norfolk Music Hub in partnership with The Wharf Academy and Young Norfolk Arts Trust have created Showstoppers, a school and community choir who perform specially commissioned pieces of music. Catch them at St Peter’s Street at 2pm.
• The Assembly House
Miseable Man and the Kavolini String Quartet will both be performing at The Assembly House. With Miserable Man on from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and the quartet from 5pm until 7pm.
• Brigg Street
Stookey Blue, a lively ceilidh band who perform folk music from England, Ireland and Scotland will be entertaining people on Brigg Street betweehn 2pm and 5pm.
• Theatre Street
From 6pm onwards Vibe City Street Bass, a loud and vibrand band featuring bass and drums will be getting people dancing on Theatre Street.
• Pirate Party, St Stephens/Wesltegate
InTouch Systems will be hosting a Pirate Party with their infamous pirate ship around the Westlegate area from 8.30pm, playing a range of music with a little something for everyone on offer. Pirate attire optional.
