There will be a chance to learn about the work of the RNLI and raise funds for saving lives at sea during a series of lifeboat days this month.

Visitors to Cromer on Sunday, August 5, will be able to browse stalls on the promenade manned by the Ladies Lifeboat Guild and take part in a range of fun activities between 10am and 1pm. Both of the town’s lifeboats will launch at 11am and RNLB Lester will be open to the public between noon and 1pm.

There will be a family service in the pier boathouse at 3pm, including 30 minutes of seafaring hymns accompanied by the Cawston band followed by a concert from the Sheringham Shantymen.

Happisburgh will also be holding its lifeboat day and fete on August 5. The event will take place on the cliff top between noon and 4pm. Attractions include a hog roast and barbecue, tea and cakes, RNLI lifeguards, tractor and trailer rides, raffle, books and bric-a-brac, bar, tombola, face painting, music and plant stall. There will also be a selection of games including darts, crockery smash, wine game, beat the goalie and a coconut shy.

The following week, on Sunday, August 12, Sheringham lifeboat day will take place at the town’s lifeboat station.

Between 10am and 1pm there will be events and displays, refreshments, a lifeguards exercise, lifeboat launch, quiz, tombola, a coastguard abseil demonstration and games.

Sheringham Shantymen will perform between 1 and 2pm and the Rev Christian Heycocks will lead the annual lifeboat service with the Salvation Army Band between 3 and 4pm.

Proceeds from the events will go to the RNLI. It costs more than £140 million annually to run the life-saving service. For every £1 donated, 85p goes to the rescue service, and 15p is reinvested to generate more funds.
