What do you get if you mix a girl from Kent, Bob Dylan and a Suffolk field?

Josie Long at Latitude of course.

And last night the comedian's late night session in the literature tent did not fail to amuse.

It began with a Shakespeare recital.

Then there was a so-called 'quiz' about the lyrical legend Bob Dylan where Josie sang and mumbled the big hits and we had to guess what she was signing. Not an easy task.

The session ended with a worthwhile rant about the rise of far-right extremism.

Her quips about those who sneer at the benefits system and the Daily Mail drew the laughs.

But it was her passion for politics and standing up for what is right that got my attention.

Josie sipped rum as she entertained the crowd sheltering from the downpour outside.

The mellow audience seemed to like Josie's childlike charm with lashings of feistiness. And I did too.
