A one off session at the Skeyton Goat inn two years ago to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee has turned the pub into a jazz jewel in the crown.

The band now plays at the venue on the first Sunday of every month from 1.30pm and people travel long distances to listen to the music and enjoy the atmosphere.

The Norfolk Dixieland Jazz Band emerged from the ashes of another popular North Norfolk based band and it plays swinging, foot-tapping traditional jazz in the style of British bands of the 1960s.

Band spokesman Vic Brown puts the session’s success down to a combination of good music, venue, and food.

Admission is free and upcoming dates are November 2, December 7, and January 4.

Vic and his wife Jean, also promote jazz at the Sheringham Little Theatre Hub with monthly sessions featuring small groups from the wealth of jazz talent in the region.

Red Shadow Quartet play 1950s style jazz on Sunday November 23 and the Tom Harris Trio play new takes on old favourites on Sunday 14 December. The music starts at 7.30pm.

Tom’s trio also plays on the last Wednesday evening of every month at Byfords Café and Restaurant in Holt.

and at the Marsham Arms at Hevingham on the third Friday.
