Holt Hall to host Norfolk Smallholders show and market

PUBLISHED: 14:22 27 July 2012

Norfolk Smallholders and their livestock will be flocking to Holt Hall on Sunday, August 5, for their 6th annual show and market.

There will be a range of events taking place throughout the day for visitors to enjoy as well as a selection of locally produced food on-sale.

Attractions include sheep shearing demonstrations, ferret races, a dog show, craft demonstrations, egg and spoon races and livestock and poultry exhibitions.

Budding smallholders will be able to get some advice from more experienced hands during a question and answer session at the event. Visitors will have the chance to quiz existing smallholders on a variety of related issues, including livestock care.

A group of heavy horses will be on display in the main ring and there will be a chance to find out more about the horses afterwards from their handler.

Teas, coffees and home-made cakes will also be on sale and a pig breeder will be bringing along one of his locally produced hogs to roast.

Smallholder Bernard Ashe, who will be selling quail eggs at the market, said: “It is a great event. What we find is people don’t go home hungry. Everybody now is concerned about where their food is coming from and it is nice to have food that you know has been well looked after.”

The event runs from 10am to 4pm. Entry costs £5, including on-site parking. Children under-16 go free.
