A ghostly theme park is the setting for this year's Halloween Spooktacular at Great Yarmouth's Hippodrome Circus.

Using props and sets that have come straight from the West End via Beccles-based Scenic Projects the half term extravaganza promises to cast a chilling spell over its audience.

It comes straight after the seaside attraction's record-breaking Summer Spectacular which enjoyed its best-ever level of support, buoyed by a buzz of social media plaudits.

Hippodrome owner Christine Jay said it was the fourth year the circus had staged a Spooktacular, and while it took a lot to put on for just 10 days the circus could rely on supportive regular and local customers who knew they were in for a good show.

Having tried it as a one-off experiment the show which mixes pantomime-style humour and story-telling with incredible acts was an instant success and has been going ever since.

She was also keen to applaud Scenic Projects, a local business that was able to supply exactly what they wanted on their doorstep.

Comedy duo Jack Jay and Johnny Mac are busy writing the production, building the story around the eerie, abandoned fairground populated by some ghoulish souls.

Jack Jay said: 'We have some fantastic sets and props from bumper cars to fortune telling tents, a fairground carousel and even a Ferris wheel, just about everything in between, it's going to be a fun-filled spooky show for all the family with some amazing acts and special effects.'

Peter Jay added: 'The annual Spooktacular has gone from strength to strength, many people come in fancy dress and advance bookings stand at an all-time high, so I advise everyone to book up early.'

The 1903-built Hippodrome was recently selected as one of the 'Seven wonders of the British Seaside' and is Britain's only surviving total circus building.

The show runs from October 20-31.
