Celebrate Christmas at one of the region’s beautiful stately homes or reserves owned by the National Trust. From candlelit house tours to carol singing, wreath-making workshops to the chance to chat to Father Christmas, even Scrooge could find an event to get him in the festive spirit.
• A Blickling Christmas:
Weekends of December 6-7, 13-14, 20-21 from 11am to 5pm.
Beautiful decorations, twinkling lights, music, storytelling, Christmas crafts, mulled wine and Father Christmas – just a few of everyone’s favourite things that make ‘A Blickling Christmas’. With something for everyone, Blickling’s Christmas weekends are bound to get you in the festive mood.
On December 6, 7, 13 and 14 you can visit the traditional Christmas market in the courtyard and be tempted by an array of gift ideas, mostly produced by local craftspeople. On December 20 and 21 the marquee will be packed with family entertainment, with storytelling, puppet shows and even the First World War Christmas truce on this last weekend before the big day. • Blickling by Candlelight:
Thursday December 11 and Thursday December 18, both open at 6, 7 and 8pm.
Soak up the Christmas atmosphere in the beautifully-decorated house by candlelight. For two nights only the house will be open in the evening. The Blickling Singers, Windmill Handbell Ringers and Roddy with his hurdy-gurdys will entertain you and mulled wine and mince pies will give you the taste of Christmas. • A 1940s Christmas:
Friday 12 – Sun 14 December, 11am to 2.30pm.
See the ground floor rooms of the Hall decorated to celebrate a 1940s Christmas. An era brought to life with the help of costumed volunteers and the Civil Defenders re-enactment group. Normal admission charges apply.
• Carols in the Courtyard:
Sunday December 14, 3pm. Come and join staff and volunteers for the ever-popular annual carol singing with the Cromer and Sheringham Brass Band out in the Stable Courtyard. Free event.
• Elizabethan House Museum, Great Yarmouth:
1940s Christmas Bazaar, Saturday 6 December, 11am to 4pm.
Meet 1940s characters in a day of music, demonstrations and paper chain making. Sample lashings of ginger beer and fill your boots with mince pies while enjoying festive frolics 40s-style.
• Festive Foliage Workshop:
Friday December 5, 10am to 4pm.
Create your own woven wreath ring with a candle centrepiece as a table decoration made from hazel, willow and bird cherry, and decorate with pine cones and beech nuts, £30 (all materials and refreshments included). Booking essential, call 08442 491895.
• Wreath Making Workshop:
Saturday December 6 and Sunday December 7, 10am to 4pm.
Enjoy a festive day making your own holly wreath with the expert help of Oxburgh’s gardener. Morning coffee, light lunch and afternoon tea, £30 (all materials provided). Booking essential, call 08442 491895.
• Christmas Treats Workshop: Friday December 12, 10am to 3pm.
Take part in a day of making sweet Christmas treats. £35, including lunch. Booking essential, call 08442 491895
• Meet Father Christmas: Saturday December 13 and Sunday December 14, 11am to 4pm.
Free entry to estate, £5 per child to meet Father Christmas. Join in the fun at Oxburgh’s grotto. Last tickets are sold at 3.30pm.
• Christmas Tree Festival:
Friday December 19, Saturday December 20 and Sunday December 21.
See Oxburgh decorated for Christmas, as staff and volunteers display trees based on different themes in the Hall. Normal admission rates apply.
• Christmas Trail and Crafts:
Saturday December 6 and Sunday December 7, 11am to 3pm.
Start your preparations for Christmas with a real family activity – get into the Christmas spirit by following a seasonal trail to the learning centre where you will be provided with materials to make a wreath or Yule Log to take away, £5 per craft made.
• Post Christmas Walk:
Saturday December 27, 11am to 1pm.
Get some fresh air and burn off a few of those Christmas calories! Walk off the excesses of Christmas with a relaxing stroll around the Park taking in the natural beauty of the area. Round off the walk with a hot drink and mince pies. You need to be able to walk up to five miles, £5.50 Adults, £2.75 Children, no booking required.
• Christmas Lunch:
Thursday December 11 and Thursday December 18, noon.
Get into the festive spirit with a three-course Christmas lunch followed by Christmas carols performed by a local primary school choir, £16.95 per ticket, booking essential on 01728 648501.
• Decorative Tree Workshop:
Friday December 5, 10.30am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 4pm. Includes park and garden admission. Join the Outdoors Manager and make a natural tree from hazel and other woods which would make a lovely seasonal decoration. Workshops include a demonstration and then making your own tree with the head gardener. Includes tea/coffee and cake.

• Ickworth Family Christmas Sparkle:
Weekends in December 6-7, 13-14, and 20-21, plus Monday December 22, 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Join Christmas fun making decorations, crackers and treats and sweets, sitting next to the Christmas tree with stories and gifts from Father Christmas. There will be choirs lifting spirits in the West Wing and you can enjoy the odd warming glass of mulled wine from the restaurant. • Ickworth’s Family Carol Service:
Sunday December 7, 6pm to 7.30pm.
A carol service in the restaurant with carols for everyone, a special performance by Ickworth Park Primary School and a celebration of life and thanksgiving.
• Christmas Wreath Workshop:
Thursday December 11 and Friday December 12, 11am to 3.30pm.
Join the Head Gardener at Ickworth’s festive wreath making workshop.Watch a demonstration and then make your own wreath for your front door. Materials provided, but bring your own secateurs and gloves. Indulge yourself with morning coffee and pastries, a two-course course lunch and afternoon tea and cake.
