Dereham Theatre Company is bringing Blackadder Goes Forth to the Memorial Hall

There is a cunning plan afoot in Dereham.

Yes, you guessed it - Dereham Theatre Company is bringing TV favourite Blackadder Goes Forth to the Memorial Hall stage next month and promise to go “over the top” with many memorable lines and moments from the fourth and final series of the iconic BBC sitcom.

Something is distinctly in the air (but of course that could just be Private Baldrick) as the theatre company shoulders arms for this Spring play, which will be ‘springing onto stage with more spring than a spring hare wearing springs in spring!’ from March 13-15.

The play is the stage adaptation of the comedy series, and is packed with all its best loved characters: Edmund Blackadder, Captain Darling, Nursey, Melchett, ‘Bob’ and of course the fragrant Baldrick, who will certainly have a cunning plan or two up his sleeve.

The series placed the characters in a trench in Flanders during the First World War, and followed their various doomed attempts to escape from the trenches to avoid certain death under the misguided command of General Melchett.

The play, selected as a light-hearted, but still poignant tribute to mark the centenary commemoration of the outbreak of the Great War features three selected episodes - ‘Major Star’, ‘General Hospital’ and ‘Goodbyeee’ - from the series, but maintains an underlying respect for the ferocity of the war and the sacrifices of the men that fought in it.

At the request of the writer, Richard Curtis, all performance fees from this production are donated to Comic Relief.

Tickets are now on sale at £10 and £8 concessions from or Arnie’s Attic in Quebec Street 01362 691569.

Performances start at 7.30pm plus a 2.30pm Saturday matinee.
