It was a perfect Latitude moment. Damon Albarn had just finished an hour set on the Obelisk Arena stage, packed with hits from his nearly three decades in music.

With the crowd screaming for an encore, a monumental clap of thunder rolled round Henham Park and served as a prelude to a four hour downpour.

No less than a minute later, Albarn reappeared on stage joined by former Blur bandmate Graham Coxon and launched into a rendition of sing-along classic, Tender.

Cries of “Come On, Come On, Come On” rang round the arena, capping a triumphant performance.

Other highlights included a cameo from British rapper, Kano, who helped Albarn run through a pumped up version of Gorillaz’ Clint Eastwood.

The Albarn back catalogue was mined further with tunes from his days in The Good, The Bad and The Queen, and a solo piano performance of Out of Time which had the 15,000 crowd rapt in silence.

In truth, some of Albarn’s solo tracks fell a little flat in the early part of the show.

But a performer as experienced as him knows to leave the best for last.

As he finished with gospel stomper Heavy Seas of Love, he leapt off his piano stool, pumped his fist and hugged everyone in reach.
