Writer, broadcaster and entertainer Keith Skipper is celebrating a major milestone in his career with a special charity show on Cromer Pier.

Skip Ahoy!, on October 11, will mark 'Skip's' 50 years at the heart of local life and will also raise money for the Eastern Daily Press We Care Appeal, which supports unpaid carers in the county.

BBC Radio Norfolk's panel game Should The Team Think? is being brought out of retirement to help raise the laughs and the precious funds on the night.

Comedian Pat Nearney and singer Danny Platton will warm up the crowd before the panel game begins.

Cromer favourite Olly Day joins BBC Look East presenter Carol Bundock to form one of the teams while Norfolk scribe and mardler Keith has paired up with the Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Rev Graham James. David Clayton, editor of BBC Radio Norfolk, will chair the panel show and try to keep order throughout.

Keith, an Eastern Daily Press writer and former BBC Radio Norfolk broadcaster, said: 'I thought it would be good to mark my milestone with some of the ingredients that have kept me going over the years – hearty laughter, good company and an excellent local cause.'

The EDP We Care Appeal has raised more than 1 million which is invested and the income from the investments is given out in grants to unpaid carers in Norfolk. The investment fund can last indefinitely and the larger it is, the more money can be paid out in grants.

Paddy Seligman, chairman of the Norfolk Millennium Trust for Carers, which runs the EDP We Care Appeal, said: 'Most adult carers now get carers allowance but that ceases when they reach pensionable age. Quite a lot of people who want help from us are in that age bracket. If something breaks down, like a washing machine, they can't afford to replace it and so they come to us for help. As a carer you could be washing soiled sheets every day so something like a washing machine is crucial. We also get a lot of requests for help from young carers, who don't get carers allowance.

'We are enormously grateful to everyone who has given up their time to support us. The more we have in the investment fund the more people we can help.'
