Vienna Festival Ballet will be putting on their new spring show - Cinderella - at the Pavilion Theatre on Cromer Pier on Saturday April 19.

The show will tell the story of a mistreated young girl, a glass slipper, two comical ugly step-sisters and a handsome prince.

Music will be from an operatic collection by Italian composer Rossini.

The artistic director is Austrian dancer Peter Mallek and Chris Nicholls, who rearranged and rewrote the ballet score, is the conductor and musical director.

The music was recorded especially for the company by a leading orchestra in Kosice, Slovakia, conducted by Chris Nicholls.

Audiences will recognise some of Rossini’s most famous operas, within the ballet, including La Cenerentola, the Italian Girl in Algiers and the Silken Ladder.

Sheila Styles, from the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet, is the choreographer for the company.

Cinderella, or the Little Glass Slipper, is a European folk tale embodying a myth-element of unjust oppression in Histoires ou contes du temps passé published by Charles Perrault in 1697 and by the Brothers Grimm in their folk tale collection Grimms’ Fairy Tales.

The show is based on the traditional story and combines classical dancing and a touch of pantomime.

Cinderella debuted as a pantomime on stage at the Drury Lane Theatre, London, in 1904 and at the Adelphi Theatre, London, in 1905.

Hundreds of films have been made that are either direct adaptations from Cinderella or have plots loosely based on the story.

Vienna Festival Ballet was founded in 1980 by Peter Mallek.

The show on Cromer Pier will start at 6.30pm and tickets cost £21, £17 or £9 for dance groups.
