A pageant telling one of the oldest stories in the world is set to make a return this Christmas.

Mundesley Pageant, which leads a procession around the seaside village re-enacting the Christmas story, took a break last year but will be back again on Christmas Eve.

This year theme is based on a song, From the Darkness Came Light.

Mundesley’s parish councillors will take on the roles of the wise men, and it is also hoped there will be real donkeys, sheep and llamas.

Organiser Jo Berry, from Mundelsey, took a break last year to visit her family in Japan, but says she is looking forward to the pageant returning in full flow this year.

She said: “I look forward to the evening itself to see people come and join in and remember the real reason we celebrate Christmas, because of this, the first story of Christmas. It is lovely to see young families come out with us for a walk on Christmas Eve.”

The pageant will start at 6.15pm from the Bowls Club car park, opposite Mundesley Free Church.

A procession will then follow a star, through Mundesley, down Back Street, along Station Road to the Post Office and past Gold Park to the Spar shop and the Manor Hotel and then to the Methodist Church where they will be directed to the car park at All Saints’ Parish Church, where Mary will give birth to baby Jesus.

The family will be visited by shepherds and wise men before going into All Saints for the final part of the Christmas story.

The pageant, which is expected to last an hour, will be accompanied by songs and carols, the words of which will be printed in the free programme which will be available from the beginning of December.

Anyone wishing to help is also welcome, especially anyone willing to play the part of a Roman soldier, and anyone with expertise in running a small sound system. Contact organiser Jo Berry on 01263 720743 or email joberry@btinternet.com
