Classic Scottish rockers Big Country will be back in Norfolk next month to headline one of the county’s biggest local music festivals.
Reepham 14 Music Festival is presenting eighteen bands at three venues over the weekend of August 9 and 10.
Along with headliner Big Country on the Saturday will be perennial crowd rockers Buster James, top tribute band Mainly Madness and fast rising Dereham-based rockers Bad Touch.
There will also be performances from Hayley Moyses’ Bluegrass Forum, Daisy Victoria and a rare UK appearance by Australian singer-songwriter Lecia Louise.
The ‘chill-out’ stage features top acoustic-roots duo Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston, Tanzanian kora player Sefo Kanuteh, dexterous guitarist Buzby and the Big Sky choir.
Sunday’s performances include Blondie tribute Parallel Times, beat-boxer Differential and rock band Walkway.
Festival chairman Steve Jenkins said: “We cater for a wide range of musical tastes over the weekend, so that festival-goers can see the music they like and also maybe experience something a little different as well. We’ve got rock, blues, folk, world, choral and even beat-boxing!
“The Festival committee has always has always been firmly committed to the idea of the wider community benefiting from what is essentially a fun and affordable weekend for music fans. And we’re a non-profit-making, community event, with net proceeds going to local charities and good causes, which underlines the principle of giving back to the community.”
A special feature this year is a prize draw to win a customised Stratocaster-style guitar signed by the members of Big Country and presented to the winner after the band’s performance.
Reepham Festival started seven years ago as a community event and has swiftly grown to find its place on the regional and national festival calendar, with bands and musicians from across the UK, Europe and even Australia applying to perform with an expected audience of nearly 2000 from across East Anglia and beyond.
