They were the tartan-trimmed boy band of the 1970s – with a string of chart successes and hordes of swooning, screaming girl fans.

Now Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers are bringing their timeless singalong songs to thrill their Tartan Army fans at Great Yarmouth.

The show on Saturday, March 10 will tell the story of the Edinburgh lads who became a pop sensation and reprise all the band’s big hits from their heydays in the mid-1970s.

They include their first number one Bye Bye Baby, Remember, Shang-A-Lang, Summerlove Sensation, All of Me Loves All of You, and Give a Little Love.

Rollermania peaked in 1975 when the band dominated the pop charts and teenage girl magazine covers, set a fashion trend for flared three-quarter length trousers and tartan scarves, and played live gigs to hysterical crowds.

After racking up album sales of more than 300m, the band split up after tensions resulted in an onstage fight in Japan.

Les, who joined the group in 1973 to replace former lead singer Nobby Clark, reformed the band and toured sell-out shows in Japan.

After a 12-year break they performed again for a massive Millennium concert festival in their home town of Edinburgh on New Year’s Eve in 1999.

They have gigged in the UK and Canada, Japan and Australia – and the show introduces numbers from the band’s latest album Lost Songs which add to the classic back catalogue.

St George’s director Debbie Thompson said: “Girls of a certain age all had the records, and the tartan trousers and scarves, that went with being a Roller fan.

“We are delighted to bring their fun music to St George’s.”

The venue would also love to see any fans’ old pictures of themselves with their Rollermania kit on back in the 70s. Please email photos to admin@stgeorgestheatre.com or share them on the venue’s Facebook page @St.GeorgesTheatre
