A Norwich businessman has invested £40,000 to give A-level students the celebration they deserve, as new house night the Dancing Astronaut bursts onto the nightlife scene at the Norwich Showground.
The project has seen a warehouse at the Showground revamped, and will host 650 people to events running six times a year.
Michael Femi-Ola is the organiser of the event and said: 'It's not like anything we have here. We see Warehouse Projects in London, and up North- in pretty much every major city- so why shouldn't we have one here?'
The team at the Dancing Astronaut has heavily focussed on bringing local talent into the limelight.
Mr Femi-Ola, from Norwich, added: 'We really wanted to give local talent a platform, particularly female DJs. That's not to say that we'll see loads of women in our line ups purely because they're women, because we'll book people based on their talent.
'But I think there's not enough of a platform for us to appreciate female DJs, so I'd really like to give them that opportunity.'
The night launching on August 17 has been carefully planned with advisers from Norwich City Council and Norfolk Constabulary, so that younger visitors will be safe.
Mr Femi-Ola, 24, added: 'All of our security teams from Regency Security have been trained by the Good Night Out Project, a campaign which started in London. All the bar staff and security teams have been trained in how to appropriately deal with situations, particularly so that women on a night out are safe, and can feel they can raise their concerns.
'This is going to be the first night out for some people enjoying their A-Level results, we want to make sure they enjoy it and their parents know they'll be safe.'
Mr Femi-Ola continued: 'We've been working closely with students from NUA and UEA as well. They've helped us with designing the set up for the night, which is all based around space, and it's given them insight into event and business management which they wouldn't really get otherwise.'
