Norfolk - A hothouse for cutting edge research on climate change

UEA are climate gurus. The Climatic Research Unit set up 30 years ago is a hothouse for cutting edge research on climate change. It is unique. There is not another substantial group of independent climate scientists anywhere else in the UK.

The climate debate is changing. It is no longer a question of if we are warming, or even by how much. Instead attention is moving to what we can do in the short term to adapt and in the longer term to foster a sustainable relationship between climate and society.

The new Tyndall Centre is UEA's response to the changing debate. A 10 million government funded unit, the centre aims to provide, 'research of climate, economics, social science and engineering to advise on sustainable responses to climate change'. As Mike Hulme of the new centre explains, 'Climate change is no longer just a problem for climate scientists, we have to engage across the disciplines, in business, in government and in communities - we need to make scientific insights workable in reality'.
