Under The Hammer: The latest in our monthly reports on what making the saleroom buzz, by Kevin Lines of leading East Anglian fine art and antiques auction house Keys Fine Art Auctioneers of Aylsham.
Last month saw our second East Anglian Art of the year – the largest sale of works by artists from this region held anywhere in the world.
Works by Seago, Munnings and Arnesby Brown were among the highlights of the sale, as well as many works by artists of the Norwich School – including pictures by all four famous Cotmans (John Sell, John Joseph, Miles Edward and Frederick George), Henry Bright and James Stark.
Strong bidding saw some impressive hammer prices, but there were also lots of works which were more affordable, and many private buyers were there to snap up pictures by local artists for their own homes.
