I am not from Norfolk.

The origins of my surname comes from the Dutch, Flemish weavers who settled in Norfolk and Suffolk sometime in and around the 16th century.

I have travelled around the world and have never come across another place that has such splendour.

Norfolk is a fine county. Beautiful skies, some of the best landscapes and wildlife that this country has to offer. Norfolk can be proud of the diverse and photogenic nature of its inspirational beauty.

On the other hand the people who live in Norfolk could not be of a more contrasting manner. Cold, suspicious, unfriendly and unwelcoming.

It is said even if you have been living in Norfolk for over 20 years, you are still a stranger. This point of view is so noticeable throughout the county.

Shopkeepers and assistants blunt and to the point, either unable to join in with friendly chat or just unwilling to. Hotels and restaurants seldom going that little bit extra to please. Even the radio stations are closed and selective in the topics discussed.

To say all Norfolk people are rude and self-contained would be absurd, and simply not true. But it is the impression given that stands out.

Norfolk is a tourist destination. People from outside the county will visit, drawn to the beauty. I just wonder what the lasting impression these people go home with is? Maybe a fine county with insula unfriendly locals.
