Feminist Germaine Greer’s comments about felling trees in Thetford Forest prompted much reaction on social media, particularly on the EDP’s Facebook page:

■ Barbara Emery: “The woman clearly knows nothing about farming or anything connected with wildlife trees.”

■ Mike Farrow: “The woman contradicted herself in the interview saying save trees nd then says flatten Thetford Forest.”

■ Patricia Snowsill: “How ignorant! Felling trees unnecessarily is madness! We need trees to survive, they provide the oxygen we breathe!”

There were a range of views on comments left on the EDP website:

■ Souperman: “Her views are with the small minority - she’s just trying to wind us up - doesn’t work on me I am afraid.”

■ Dan: “I suppose the argument would only stand up if these habitats were destroyed, or simply moved elsewhere. The forest certainly breaks up square miles of similar landscape so it may have moved. It’s all hypothetical anyway as no one is going to fell Thetford Forest.”
