While the menu offers burgers, burritos and little plates for snacking and sharing, the choice of 15 different taco fillings make them the main attraction at Lust & Liquor on St Benedict's Street in Norwich.

Interior/Atmosphere

There are two Lust & Liquor restaurants in the city but we opted for the central one on St Benedict's Street. The interior is sleek, modern and cool - the brick walls, wooden floors and red chairs give it a New Orleans feel. The tables are well spaced out, private and the all around vibe is pretty cool.

Food

Lust & Liquor do a weekly 'Taco Tuesday' offer of four tacos, fries and a beer for £10. As luck would have it we went on a Tuesday and, with our taco virginity firmly intact, there seemed no better time than the present.

I opted for feta and sweet potato as well as a more traditional three bean chilli. Across the table was chilli salt squid, lime and chilli king prawns and beetroot with halloumi.

I am sad to report that we were both underwhelmed. We felt the tacos skimped on filling and all of the flavourings were rather bland.

The chewy texture of the squid didn't compliment the already hard to eat taco and, all in all, it was very mediocre. The beetroot and halloumi worked well together but was just the best of a bad bunch. The fries were average but made more enjoyable by the addition of pepper on top, which gave them a kick. Luckily, the staff were easy-going about my request to hold the mature cheddar usually sprinkled on the tacos. My date gave the food a four out of ten - unlike me, he's not overly enthusiastic at the best of times, but on this occasion I have to say I agreed with his verdict.

Objectively, if you love tacos and are looking for a quick and simple fix, you might well be very happy here but it just wasn't for us.

Drink

We both had a beer as part of the Taco Tuesday deal, there is a small but satisfactory selection. Although we didn't have any cocktails this place is meant to be extraordinarily good at them, so I guess what we felt they lacked on the food side is made up for in alcohol (can't argue with that!). I would be curious to go back for a drink such as the Lavender Collins.

Service

The staff were friendly and polite and we didn't have to wait long for the food. However we were the only people in there at the time.

Loos

Very basic but clean and pleasant.

Parking

Duke Street car park is practically opposite and St Andrews multi-storey is just down the road. Nevertheless, the restaurant is within walking distance of Gentleman's Walk.

Location

On the corner of St Benedict's Street Lust & Liquor is perfectly placed along a strip of vibrant bars, pubs and restaurants - the perfect cocktail stop for any night out.

Price

At the usual price of £11 for three tacos with all the trimmings, I would say it's pretty steep considering quantity, however the Taco Tuesday deal is pretty good value as the drinks are included. The burgers range from £10 - £12 and all the little plates of snacks are £5 or under.

Highlight

The wooden boxes the tacos are served in caused sufficient amusement when my less than impressed date said 'why are they served in a box, what happened to plates?'. A timely question with a significant birthday looming for him next week and the perfect reminder that perhaps we've hit an age where alternatives to crockery are lost on us.

In Summary

The restaurant itself is inviting but sadly the tacos weren't for me and overall I found the experience very subpar. I probably won't be going back to eat but haven't written it off for a tipple or two.

We contacted Lust & Liquor for comment but have not heard back.
