Working in journalism you get to hear the incredible stories of people going above and beyond to help their community or bravery shown in the face of danger.

This is why when I was asked to help with the Stars of Norfolk and Waveney I quickly accepted and looked forward to hearing the amazing stories of the people in our region.

The awards look to celebrate those who have done amazing things for their community or for other people, often without expecting anything in return.

I spoke to previous reporters about the awards and their experiences being involved with the night and heard nothing but great things.

Lauren Cope, our reporter who organised our coverage of Stars in 2015, said: 'Being behind the scenes at Stars is no easy task – there's plenty to arrange and double check to make sure the night goes smoothly.

'But it's a great evening to be a part of – everyone knows they are going to hear amazing stories from some of our area's most inspiring people, and there's often not a dry eye in the room.

'Being so involved, I spent the weeks in the run-up talking to incredible people, and getting to know them made their celebrations all the more special.'

Stuart Anderson said: 'It was an evening of smiles and celebrations, triumphs and tears of joy.

'I helped to organise the 2016 Stars of Norfolk and Waveney, writing stories about the nominees throughout the year and interviewing the finalists on the awards night.

'Some of those honoured were already well-known, such as tennis star Alfie Hewett, and others were 'silent achievers' such as midwife co-ordinator Emily Cole.

'It was a privilege to help share their stories and help the everyday heroes of our community get the recognition they deserve.

'The Stars' awards are a way we can all say thank you to people who make this region such a fantastic place to live – so let's all get involved and help make this year's event better than ever.'

It is easy to nominate someone. The form takes a minute to fill in and is available at www.edp24.co.uk/stars

Sponsors Norfolk County Council

Cliff Jordan, leader of Norfolk County Council said: 'We all know special people who make a real difference to those around them. Their good work helps make all our lives that bit better.

'Such people are not seeking reward for the time and trouble they take to help others. That makes it all the more important that we should seek out opportunities to say 'Thank you'.

'Stars of Norfolk and Waveney is a chance for all of us to let the heroes of our communities know just how much we value all that they do. That's why Norfolk County Council is proud to support the awards again this year.

'Please take a few minutes to look through the award categories, and to nominate someone special. You can be sure that the winners will have a terrific night at the awards ceremony. It's a great occasion to recognise and celebrate people who represent all that's best about the wonderful part of the world we call home.'
