For the next eight days, OPEN is home to an eclectic group of models, make-up artists and hair stylists as they all come together to present Norwich Fashion Week 2016.

Picture the scene, important looking people with headsets and clipboards rush here, there and everywhere, make-up artists wield MAC brushes at pretty faces and a fog of hairspray clouds the air.

Loud music blares from the speakers - the same David Bowie track playing over and over as male models walk up and down the catwalk in time with the beat, rehearsing their cues for the Mercedes-Benz of Norwich Retailers Show taking place on Thursday night.

The backstage preparation is an interesting sight to behold. The inherent glitz and glamour of Fashion Week is stripped back to basics, with the models all fresh faced and dressed down in tracksuits, sipping coconut water and swapping photo shoot techniques.

As an outside observer, it’s instantly obvious just how much work goes into putting on each show. There are so many people buzzing around doing various jobs.

“It may only be a week’s worth of events but there is a lot of preparation that is involved,” confirmed Fiona Muller, one of the NFW directors and show coordinators.

Muller is in charge of The Designers show on Tuesday 15 March and The Design and Enterprise day taking place Wednesday 16 March.

Speaking about her favourite part of the week, she said “I like the planning beforehand and I like the feeling after the show! Before then it is always a bit stressful - good, but stressful.”

See for yourself some of the hard work that goes into putting on a week of fashion excellence in our behind the scenes gallery.
