Giving a little can mean a lot this festive season.

Most of our minds are no doubt filled with wondering what gifts to buy for our loved ones for Christmas.

There is, though, a great opportunity to give a gift that will be a festive lifeline to others’ loved ones.

Giving blood is simple, fast, relatively painless and very rewarding. The surprising thing is how many people do not do it.

It may be because of busy lives, a touch of nervousness, an “I’ll do it tomorrow” attitude or just simply not being bothered.

This Christmas there are 160 slots open for people to donate a pint: 160 slots that, if left unfilled, could endanger the health or life of those in dire need of a transfusion.

Imagine being in that position. Or imagine seeing a close relative in that position. It’s not a nice thought.

So this Christmas, please give a little of something that means a lot.
