As soon as school is out, families head for the coast. Over the years, the holiday camps and campsites along our shoreline have filled up with those eager for a spot of relaxation and enjoyment beside the sea.

1. A crowd of happy visitors determined to enjoy themselves spills out of Caister Holiday Camp in July 1952.

2. Tents and caravans are cheek by jowl on the beach at Great Yarmouth in 1956.

3. A wide selection of canvas structures adorns the foreshore overlooking the beach at Yarmouth in the same year.

6. Popular Tottenham footballer Jimmy Greaves chats with fellow holidaymakers at Caister Holiday Camp in July 1962. He even turned out to play for a camp team against a Yarmouth Town team one evening during his stay.

7. The mayor samples Caister Holiday Camp’s elegant buffet in the mid-1960s as the head chef explains the dishes on offer.

8. A brand new luxury holiday camp - converted from RAF Hopton – opened its doors in early May 1966 and the only people staying there, Mr and Mrs Cooper from Malvern and their three children, posed for 
a number of photographs at Mariners Park Holiday Centre. A champagne reception was laid on to mark the opening of the camp and several former Commanding Officers at the RAF station were traced and invited to attend.

10. The dining room at the Constitutional Holiday Camp Hopton captured on camera in 1967 is large and well appointed, poised to receive hundreds of hungry visitors.
