Passengers at Cromer Station this morning received a surprise as they stepped onto the platform and were greeted by a vintage steam train.

The 1957 'BR' will today be travelling between Cromer and Sheringham, as the train's drivers and guards practice for the opening of a dining service starting on July 5.

The steam train was also joined by his 'half brother', a vintage diesel train which will also be operating on the line.

The dining service aboard the steam train will be running between Holt and Sheringham, with spots for the experience filling fast.

Hugh Harkett, managing director of North Norfolk Railway, said: 'This will be quite a unique event, we've been wanting to get to Cromer for a while and now we can be in Cromer all the time.'

Services on the steam train will now be running beteen Cromer and Holt, and Holt and Sheringham.
