Bullards launches its new version of one of Norwich’s favourite beers.

An iconic black and white image of brewer Gerald Bullard sitting on the iced-over river Wensum in 1962 features on the pump clip of a brand new beer launched this week by Bullards.

Russell Evans, who revived the 180-year-old Bullards brand three years ago, describes Bullards Mild as: “Like a hazelnut latte with extra roasted coffee beans, which gives it an unusual nutty finish. A great winter beer offering.”

The Mild is crafted with Norfolk Maris Otter, brown, black, double roasted and Munich malts, and Fuggles and Goldings hops, with an infusion of hazelnuts, and will officially be available in pubs such as the Ten Bells, Fat Cat, Artichoke and Boars from December 18 onwards.

Russell is very enthusiastic about this latest brew, which was always popular in its time, but has been given a modern twist to bring it bang into the 21st century.

“We’re three years old this year so decided to bring back what Bullards was always renowned for – Mild. It used to be the best Mild in town. Our recipes aren’t the original old recipes but we think people will like the chestnutty flavour of the new Mild. It tastes very wintery and Christmassy. John Bullard, Gerald’s son, loves it. He’s a great fan of what we do and said his dad would be looking down very very pleased.”

John Bullard added: “It is great to see this iconic and trusted Norwich brand once again able to bring pleasure and fellowship to us all in Norfolk and potentially well beyond. I much look forward to raising my glass!”

Bullards produces a range of beers including East Coast Pale Ale, India Pale Ale, Amber Ale and a Session IPA. It also makes an award-winning London Dry Gin (Bullard’s Norwich Dry Gin) plus a fruity strawberry and black pepper gin.
