Later this month the shopping extravaganza Black Friday will be back for another year. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of one of the key dates in the UK’s shopping calender.
What is Black Friday?
It is the day after Thanksgiving in the USA and for many years now it has been the busiest shopping day of they year in the states.
In recent years the craze has moved across the pond and Black Friday is now one of the busiest shopping days on the British calendar.
When is Black Friday 2017?
Black Friday occurs the day after Thanksgiving which this year falls on Thursday November 23 so Black Friday 2017 will happen on Friday November 24.
Why is it called Black Friday?
The name is thought to be a reference to the ‘black ink’ on the balance sheets from the huge profits the retailers rake in on this day, rather than being in the red on a poor day of sales.
Which deals can I expect this Black Friday?
Dozens of retailers will take part in Black Friday this year, including: Amazon, Argos, Currys, John Lewis, Boots, Debenhams, House of Fraser, ASOS, M&S and local retailer Hughes Electrical.
Items that are usually heavily discounted include TVs, laptops, desktop computers, mobile phones, clothing and cosmetics.
How much money will people spend this year?
UK households are expected to spend a total of £3bn during Black Friday according to research by price comparison site GoCompare.
The research also stated only 31pc of households plan to browse in the sales virtually or in person, of which 49pc said they will shop online.
