As the days get darker and the temperature begins to drop, here's a look at some of the great places where you can make the most of the last few weeks of Autumn.

• Knettishall Heath Country Park

This section of the Suffolk countryside offers a choice of trails through woodland, meadows and heath by the Little Ouse River. The area was created in the Bronze Age and remained largely unchanged until forestry and farming in the mid 20th century transformed parts of The Brecks. A herd of Exmoor ponies are gradually helping to create a more natural, grazed landscape.

• Holt Country Park

Holt Country Park is dominated by tranquil woodland and is situated on the edge of the Norfolk coast area. Why not spend a day getting lost among the many Scots Pines and native Broad-Leaved trees.

• Ickworth Park

Ickworth is a county estate created form a vision of classical Italy and features a National Trust Georgian palace, in whcih there are plenty of autumnal activities taking place throughout October. The grounds are also the perfect place to take a walk through, featuring gardens, personal pathways and inspiring views.

• Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden

Fairhaven is comprised of 130 acres of cultivated wild and natural plantings and nearly four miles of woodland pathways to explore. Those who visit here will be able to enjoy stunning views over the private broad and can stop off for a hot drink in the tea room after their walk.

• Sheringham Park

This landscape park and gardens surrounds Sheringham Hall and is in the care of the National trust. All year round the walks provide visitors with spectacular views of the local area, including the coast and steam railway line.

• Rendlesham Forest

The forest is home two two circular walks, a blue easy access trail of 1.2km and a longer red trail of 5km. Both take people through plantations, heathland and wetlands. For those seeking something a little different, why not try the UFO trail, which visits some of the areas connected to a UFO sighting in December 1980.

• Pensthorpe Natural Park

Based in the heart of the Norfolk countryside, Pensthorpe Natural Park in Fakenham offers visitors several attractions, including nature trails, woodland walks, wildlife conservation and play areas for children. For flower and garden lovers, the Park is also home to three vibrant gardens, created by award-winning designers, as well as a beautiful meadow covered in wildflowers.

• Bradfield Woods

Just south-east of Bury St Edmunds is the ancient Bradfield Woods, filled with several species of autumnal fungi including ink caps and bright red fly agaric. Several different walking trails are on offer, ranging from three quarters of a mile to five miles.

• Snettisham Park

This park is definitely an ideal place to take your children. The 329 acre working farm has lots to offer visitors, including a deer safari and lamb feeding sessions. There are also several trails and walks to follow, such as the archaeology trail which reveals the interesting origins of the farm land.

• Captain's Wood

Caprain's Wood is a little known area of ancient woodland located near Sudbourne, filled with roaming deer, barn owls and several species of bat. The land is owned by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust and unlike other woods in the county has an open, airy feel about it.
