Early Victorian detached houses like this on prime turf in the Golden Triangle, this one almost opposite the Norwich High School for Girls, just don’t come on the market very often and I reckon that by this time next week, it will already be under offer.

Once you own one, you don’t really want to leave because they offer space with those beautifully proportioned rooms with high ceilings, period features such as fireplaces and wooden floors and in this case, the most beautiful walled garden.

Seeing the house this week meant it was bathed in sunlight, it streaming in from almost every window; interestingly, the old deeds and documents presented to me show the property was once actually called Sunny Side. This is because the garden is south facing, so it literally is on the sunny side of the street!

It was built in 1848, as part of the Eaton estate, owned by a James Alderson Bailey and then auctioned in 1884 when it was described as having a conservatory and gardens. There is a conservatory and garden room which has been added to the house - so pleasing to think that this was actually putting back what was once there.

The garden just looks glorious - how marvellous to finally be able to write about the outside space which, at homes throughout the long winter, have looked colourless and uninviting. But now, with the blast of hot weather, gardens have almost miraculously come alive and this one boasts a large blossom tree providing the most gorgeous colour in what is a very pretty walled garden.

The house itself is everything you would expect in this type of structure with a long entrance hall and winding staircase with a very attractive bannister, two front receptions, one which has been extended into a garden room and a large kitchen at the rear leading into the conservatory. There is an ample cellar and upstairs, five bedrooms, the fifth being ideal as a study or dressing room. Outside, it has that gorgeous grey brick facade and quoins, and resembles the Georgian architecture of less than 20 years before. This is a magnificent house, ideal for a family, and I don’t think it will be on the market for long.
