A record number of buildings in the East of England have been shortlisted for awards in this year’s Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Regional Awards.

Among them are eight developments in Norfolk ranging from residential, such as Platform 5’s Backwater house in Wroxham, to event space such as the University of East Anglia’s new Enterprise Centre.

Other innovative buildings include Fakenham’s new Play Barn, which reinvents the indoor play centre, the new stables and pottery building in Holkham Hall and The Great Hospital care home in Norwich.

Nicolas Tye, Chairman of RIBA East, said: “We’ve had an amazing response to the call for entries and it’s really great to see clients pushing for good design across such a broad spectrum, from schools and religious buildings through to housing schemes and one-off homes. The architecture practices and their clients are to be congratulated.”
