Veteran striker David Connolly scored the pick of the afternoon's goals at St Mary's - but was left frustrated.
Connolly cut in from the left and fired a 20-yarder into the top far corner to put Saints 2-1 up.
"Obviously you don't score goals like that every week, so that was very pleasing," he said. "But we scored two goals and it's a shame, because it's bittersweet that we didn't win really.
"They are a good side and you have to give them credit, they kept coming forward and they passed it well. They've got some good players, but I thought we were good value today but it's just disappointing not to get a win.
"It was an open game because they were going for the goal and then they equalised which puts the onus on us as the home side to go for a goal.
"I don't know if you'd call it pulsating, but it was end to end and it was a good game to be involved in, but it was a shame that we couldn't pick up three points in the end."
