Wiggins is ready for action

Rhoys Wiggins has had his first taste of senior action for the Canaries - and now he wants more.

The left back made his debut in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Gillingham and was on the bench for last weekend's trip to Carlisle.

His return to full fitness after a summer knee operation continued on Wednesday with a 90-miniute appearance for the reserves - all of which is whetting the young Welshman's appetite.

“It's the second 90 now since the operation in the summer so I am definitely getting there,” said Wiggins, who joined City from Crystal Palace in July. “I feel like I'm getting a bit more fitness and feeling good. I've been around the place and that so I definitely feel part of it. I've been travelling with the squad now for a couple of weeks and got on the bench last Saturday and it is just good to see us winning.

“I'm getting there fitness wise so it just depends on the gaffer whether he feels the need to put me in. I know we have a few injuries at the minute so it could be a perfect time for me.

“I'm just looking forward to it - I want that first league experience. I have the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the bag so it's all about the league.”

For now it's about getting 100pc match fit.

“I think coming back from injuries you always need three or four games before you feel fully fit, but my legs feel fine, which is a good sign,” added Wiggins, who may have to be content with a seat on the bench at Leeds on Monday, unless something untoward happens to the likes of Adam Drury or Simon Lappin.

“It's a massive game, a massive club,” he said. “They have got good support behind them as well so it would be nice to play in front of a crowd - and also on Sky as well.”
