King's Lynn Stars' historic grand slam victory is to be celebrated at a civic reception next week.
West Norfolk mayor Michael Pitcher has invited the Stars to King's Lynn town hall next Friday to publicly mark their achievements.
Deputy Mayor Colin Sampson, who watched the riders cruise to Knock-out Cup Final victory at the Norfolk Arena on Wednesday night, said the Borough was keen to congratulate the team on gaining a place in the history books.
He said: “This win makes them the most successful sporting team in the Eastern Counties by a mile. It was a tremendous night and there was a great crowd.
“Everybody had a great time. There was a odd crash here and there to add a bit of spice to it, but it was good, hard, racing.”
“We are going to give them a bit of a civic reception. The team is part of the Borough and anybody who achieves something we try and celebrate it publicly - whether it's a sports club or a group of people.
“We are very keen on trying to give them the publicity so that more people know these good things that go on in the area.”
It is expected that the riders will be at the reception along with King's Lynn stars chief Buster Chapman and others who have played a part in the victory.
Sampson added: “We're just going to tell them what jolly good chaps they are. They've had a great year, they've made history and they've been winning things for the last few years. This is the second triple - which hasn't been done before.”
He added: “It really wasn't a sport that was on my radar before, but having been a couple of times it was a good night. I thought there was a really free and easy atmosphere. We were taken by the fact there were smaller children who could wander around safely.”
The reception will be held at Lynn Town Hall next Friday at 12noon.
