Tough Vase task awaits Wymondham

Last updated: 30/10/2009 10:04:00

Wymondham will aim to put a dent in Datchworth's unbeaten home record when the two clubs meet in the second round of the RFU Senior Vase tomorrow.

Datchworth play in London 3 North West, and lie in a similar position to Wymondham, also having collected six points.

The Hertfordshire side have played one fewer game as their fixture last weekend had to be abandoned after 15 minutes when the referee collapsed with a suspected stroke.

Wymondham may be forced into 10 changes, with the backs most affected and just Stephen Simms surviving. John Gill deservedly gets a place in the centre where he will partner Mike Kerridge who so far has played hooker, flanker and centre this season.

The cup competition also requires clubs to field an additional front row player and Wymondham have had to dig deep with three first choice front rowers ruled out.

The second/third squads have a friendly against a Woodbridge XV while the Veterans take on Norwich - both fixtures are at Tuttles Lane.

The club was this week mourning the death of Dave Dring, who sadly passed away on Tuesday night. Dring was a long serving member of the club, well known and liked throughout the county.

On Sunday the Colts have a vital Eastern Counties Cup clash against Cambridge at Tuttles Lane (1pm). Victory would put the Wymondham Colts in pole position to progress to the knockout stage.
