England call-up for Wymondham riders

For the second year running, Amanda Edwards and Addie Garrett represented England at the British Dressage Home International championship.

Edwards, riding Mercurey, and Garrett, riding Missdemeanour, were the only riders from Norfolk chosen to represent England as part of the Eastern Region Squad.

Additionally, the dynamic duo are both from Wymondham and keep their horses in the same yard at Wong Farm.

In total 32 teams comprising four riders on each team, plus 16 individual riders, represented England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, over the two days at Rowallan Equestrian Centre, near Glasgow, on October 17 and 18.

The competition followed the format of an international event with a trot-up and vet inspection and classes ranged from preliminary to PSG level.

Edwards, who is a senior administrator at the University of East Anglia and instructor to Garrett, finished sixth in the overall individual championship at medium level and helped her team to eighth place in the Team Championship.

Garrett, who is a student at the University of East Anglia, came 14th in the hotly-contested overall individual championship at preliminary level.

Amanda said: "We were both delighted to have been chosen to compete for England again. We had to go through several selection trials in order to be chosen. More than 80 horse and rider combinations competed for the 16 available team places.

"The trip to Scotland took 12 hours but the whole experience was well worth the long journey. My horse, Mercurey, produced three fantastic tests over the two days to secure our sixth place in the overall Individual Medium Championship, which helped my team gain eighth place in the Team Championship."

Their next major competition will be the British Dressage Winter semi-finals where Edwards has qualified for the Medium class and Garrett is hoping to qualify for the Preliminary and Novice classes.
