England call-up for Mickleburgh

Last updated: 22/10/2009 19:03:00

Norfolk's Jaik Mickleburgh has been ear-marked for further progress up the international cricketing ladder after being named in the Category C England Performance Programme squad.

Category A is for players perceived to be closest to graduating into the England teams and have been part of the programme and Lions teams in recent years. The four players selected for the A squad are Mark Davies (Durham), Amjad Khan (Kent), Stephen Moore (Lancashire) and Michael Carberry (Hampshire).

There are 10 players in the B squad, which is for players with experience of first-class cricket and perceived to be one to three years away from the England team. Mickleburgh, who returned from Essex to play one game for Norfolk during the summer, is among 22 hopefuls in a C Squad made up of “younger players with less first-class county experience, many of whom have been part of the ECB elite player development programme”.

Mickleburgh's progress in 2009 was hampered by a knee injury, although he did return to make several impressive contributions for his club side, Horsford.

As part of the Performance Programme, he will undertake training camps at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough and at the CSA High Performance Centre in Pretoria, South Africa over the next two months.
