Former Ipswich and Scotland football manager George Burley was among hundreds of runners who braved cold temperatures and sleet showers to take part in yesterday's Great East Run in Bungay.
Norfolk's young athletes produced some good performances in the Anglian Schools cross country event. Claire Pring again led the way with a fine victory in the senior girls' race.
Now that the snow has at last cleared City of Norwich Athletic Club's athletes got back in business over the weekend. The club's cross-country programme recommenced in South Wales and nearer to home Shouldham Warren.
The world's best cross country runners gathered at Edinburgh's snow covered Holyrood Park on Saturday. The line-up in the Bupa International Cross Country meeting included three of the City of Norwich Athletic Club's rising stars that had competed successfully in the recent European Championships.
There were both outstanding and some promising performances from Norfolk athletes in the Anglian Schools Championships. The throwers continued to do well, with Laura McDonald dominating the junior girls' javelin and Jenna Cannell leading the under-17 girls' hammer with a 41m 76 throw.
Field event athletes showed the way in the Norfolk Schools Championships at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich. There were a considerable number of records broken with pride of place going to Oliver Bradfield, who threw the javelin in the junior boys' age group (under-15) an outstanding 55.
