Rodney maintains his perfect record

A super-fit pensioner will continue his amazing record at this year's Larking Gowen City of Norwich Half Marathon. Seventy-four-year-old Rodney Potter, from Eaton, will join almost 3,000 other competitors for the 25th running of the race at the end of the month - and he is the only person to have taken part in every one of them.

The City of Norwich Half Marathon is hoping to mark its 25th birthday with a double record-breaking celebration. Following an all-time high entry of 2,695 participants in 2008, organisers have reported that this year's race, which starts and finishes at the Norfolk Showground, is poised to smash that total and could even top the 3,000 mark.

Coast run is a record-breaker

After Saturday's wind and rain the sun shone on the annual East Coast Run at Great Yarmouth yesterday. With ideal conditions a record numbers of competitors completed the 10km course, with 530 crossing the finishing line.

Parker makes best of trip to see her mum

Olympian Barbara Parker was on a double mission at the weekend when making the long haul home from the States. She was here to celebrate her mum's 60th birthday and at the same time be part of the City of Norwich AC's senior ladies team in the National Road Relay Championship at Sutton Park, Birmingham.

The South of England Road Relay Championships were staged at the Aldershot Arena at the weekend, meaning a long round trip for the competing City of Norwich AC athletes.

Round Norfolk Relay race director Ian Vaughan-Arbuckle hailed this year's event as one of the best. City of Norwich won their eleventh consecutive club class title (21:13:21 seconds) over the gruelling 193-mile, 17-stage contest while Riverside veteran Annie Furbank retained her Kelly Holmes' crown for the best age-graded performance.

Aviva announce support for City Half Marathon

Organisers of the Larking Gowen City of Norwich Half Marathon have announced that Aviva has become an official event partner for the Silver Jubilee race.

There were both outstanding and some promising performances from Norfolk athletes in the Anglian Schools Championships. The throwers continued to do well, with Laura McDonald dominating the junior girls' javelin and Jenna Cannell leading the under-17 girls' hammer with a 41m 76 throw.

Field event athletes showed the way in the Norfolk Schools Championships at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich. There were a considerable number of records broken with pride of place going to Oliver Bradfield, who threw the javelin in the junior boys' age group (under-15) an outstanding 55.
